Nello is operations software for a business. It reads the
mailbox and files a company connects so that the people in that company can
see what is waiting on them. This page says what it holds, what it never
holds, and how to end it.
Who this covers
Nello is run by Nello, an independent software company, and is used by
businesses that have signed up for it. If you received mail from someone who
uses Nello, Nello holds that message the same way their mail client does: to
show it to them. It is not used for anything else.
What is connected, and by whom
A customer connects their own accounts, themselves, through the provider's
own sign-in screen. Nello never asks for or stores a password to any of them.
Microsoft Outlook
- Read mail, read the calendar, read the signed-in user's own name and
address, and create drafts.
- Not permission to send. It is not requested.
Google Drive
- Read only, through the
drive.readonly scope, so that work
delivered into a folder can be matched to who delivered it.
- It cannot create, edit, move, rename, delete or reshare anything, and
that is enforced by the permission rather than promised by the code.
What is stored
- Message subjects, senders, dates and enough of the text to describe the
thread, plus a short written summary of each live conversation.
- The people a customer works with: name, contact address, and what has
been agreed with them.
- A log of what changed in the software and when.
Attachments are not downloaded or stored. Mail older than ninety days is
not read, and threads quiet for more than thirty days are dropped from the
screen entirely.
What is never stored
- Passwords, for any connected account.
- Payment card details. Nello does not take payments.
- Anything from a Drive file beyond its name, type and folder.
Who can see it
A customer's data is separated from every other customer's in the database
itself, not only in the software, so a mistake in the software cannot show one
customer another's records. Access to run and repair the system is limited to
Nello's operator. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone for
advertising, ever.
Other services used
- Railway and Supabase host the software
and the database.
- Anthropic is sent thread text to write the summaries.
It is not used to train models on that text.
- Resend sends notifications to Nello's own operator.
Ending it
A customer can disconnect any account at any time from the provider's own
security settings, which takes effect immediately and without telling Nello
first. On request, everything held for that customer is deleted. Write to
